It’s not just workers and consumers that capitalism cannibalises. It’s nature too. Musk wants women to have more babies, to feed the growth that capitalism needs. And, not content with plundering our living planet for the materials that go into his inventions, he wants to plunder Mars as well.

We need an economy that meets human needs and respects the rest of nature. Neither capitalism nor patriarchy can provide this.

I really like this essay and I agree that women should lead the future. I have looked to permaculture- earth care, people care, fair share - as a way for society to move forward and heal the earth while caring for people. But the permaculture movement itself is led by men. It was “invented” by some men but actually is based on millenia of indigenous knowledge. I am willing to overlook all of this to create a female-led permaculture future. Permaculture follows the patterns in nature and can be scaled from the size of a flower box to an entire land. In chinathey have used permaculture principles to re-green entire swaths of desert, using terraces and compost and other natural elements. The best decision in a permaculture economy would be that which is best for the Earth and her people. Surplus is reinvested in the Earth and used to provide for certain material needs. I am ironically using AI to create a game for iPhone and iPad that engagingly teaches permaculture principles and how everything is interdependent. Players will “level up” by harmonizing different elements and gaining a yield. The yield can be spent on people and earth. My goal is to spread this knowledge to people who don’t spend a ton of time outdoors yet. Maybe I will work women’s leadership into the game somehow.
