Anyone whose first response to this shitshow is to blame women, isn't interested in fighting trans insanity nearly as much as they are interested in any excuse to shit on women.

Yes, I've noticed that there's a "blame the women" faction amongst the gender critical. Given how complex the issue is I don't pay much attention to them. Side note, I keep seeing headlines about how young people aren't have nearly as much sex as the older generations did, regardless of the fact that the pill is easily available.

You know what? I actually agree with you, but at least Mary is arguing in good faith and stating what she truly believes. Why not make this about Pearl or the Red Scare groupies?

I have a lot of respect for Mary. If I attack her book, it’s in the manner of a knife-sharpener attacking a knife. I’m glad she wrote the book, although I think her analysis is flawed. Feminists need to read each other’s work closely, to argue and to critique. That’s how everybody improves and sharpens their thinking. I would love for her to read and respond (though I don’t think she’ll find my piece).

I think she should read it and engage with it. Why not tag her? Anyway, thanks for explaining why you critiqued her as a worthy opponent. I appreciate her old school feminist sensibilities, but think that in this particular instance you are correct.

You’re right, I forgot to tag her! I better go and do that today. Thank you :)

I have yet to read the book - but I have ready MH's articles for a long time and have read its synopsis and teaser content. I don't know whether its fair for you to say she is "blaming women" since my take is that she is directing her criticism not at women but at the mainstream/dominant feminist movement. Her primary allegation is the movement has become elitist and is run by and for elite women whose advocacy centres around advancing their own interests while treating "lesser" ie working class women as hired help.

In that observation I am with her since the movement has become a highly professionalised nomenklatura of academics, executives and media figures. It is they who have permitted the fox of gender ideology into the henhouse, and then bask in progressive platitudes while dumping al the costs and suffering on precisely those "lesser" women who have to suffer ie being locked in a prison cell with a convicted rapist.
